Amy Love Osgood, Student Midwife
I had the unique opportunity to grow up with a mother who told me openly and often about the joys of childbearing. This impacted me greatly, and taught me a level of faith that left no room for fear. What a gift! While I was researching my own options before becoming pregnant, I fell in love with all things pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. When my son was born on December 25, 2004, a mother was also born, and she was far more empowered and confident than I could have imagined. The birth of my second son 3 years later confirmed for me that I had found my life’s purpose and passion.

I loved the midwifery model of care, which taught me how to advocate and make decisions on behalf of myself and my family. This is how I realized the amazing opportunity birth workers have in helping lay and strengthen the foundation on which families are built. Although I became a cheerleader to all my friends entering motherhood from that time forward, I waited 13 years to begin my formal training as a birth doula because I wanted to be home with my 2 boys in the early years. Supporting San Diego families in this way has been incredibly fulfilling these past 5 years. Now, as my children near adulthood and my duties as a mother shift, I see myself born into a new phase of life, with greater responsibility and wider influence. Midwifery is that natural next step, and I chose Mercy in Action College of Midwifery because of their high standards for competency and compassion, and their focus on global citizenry and care. It is an honor to come up under Kayti’s teaching, wisdom, experience, energy, and kindness. My desire is to gain her insights and support her as she pours her passion into local families. Let’s Birth Local together!

We offer all standard lab and ultrasound testing.

Most of our client families never need to see an OB in their pregnancy, as we are licensed to provide complete maternity care to low-risk pregnant folks.

A Better Next Birth

How Many Midwives will come to my birth?
It is our plan that Kayti and Amy (Senior Midwifery Student) will attend your birth. It is very reassuring to families to know that we will be there for them. Being able to trust your care providers because you have gotten to know who they are, and who they will be, is invaluable. It allows your body to do the deeply sensitive and integrative work of "letting go" and having a baby. The hormones of labor require your body and mind to feel safe.
In San Diego, every home and birth center birth is planned to be attended by at least 2 skilled providers, trained in Neonatal Resuscitation and ready to help in the event of birth urgencies or emergencies.
